The final Charolais Society Show/Sale of the year had top prices of €14,500 in the bull section and €7,700 in the heifer section and the packed ringsides ensured a very solid trade throughout resulting in the last animal into the ring, a heifer (just 12 months old) shown by twelve year old David Henry from Donegal selling for €3,000.
Championship sash and top price of the day €14,500 went to young Thomas Butler. Ballymore, Cashel for his bull CLONOULTY ADNRAEMON. (“Adnraemon” was the Senior Male Calf Champion at the National Show) By “Nevers” and out of “Cottage Tasmin” by “Oscar” he was purchased by the Castlemartin Pedigree Herd, Kilcullen, Co. Kildare.
Reserve Male Championship went to Aidan Farrell, Boyanna, Moate for “Williamstown Arthur”. By “Doonally New” and out of a home bred dam “Williamstown Ursula” by “Maerdy Impeccable” He sold for €9,500 to Michael Coyne, Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon.
Price range for bulls was from €1400 to €14,500 with an average price of €3,351 and an 85% clearance.
Heifers
Championship in the female section went to Richard O’Beirne, Kilconly, Tuam for his 14 months old heifer DOON AGNES. By “Malicieux” (one of the two “Malicieux” calves at the sale, the other was a first prize winner) she is out of a home bred dam “Doon Tombola” by “Indurain” She sold for €4,150 to Philip Marron, Corbane, Shantonagh, Co. Monaghan.
Reserve Female Championship went to Michael Nerney, Elphin, Co. Roscommon for his 2 year old heifer “Windmill Violet” by “Doonally New” and out of a home bred dam “Windmill Shania” by “Indurain”. She sold for €4,800 to Mark Clear, Clonaslee, Co. Laois.
Top price in the female section €7,700 went to local breeder Helen Faughnan, Lisdadnan, Mohill for “Lisdadnan Amy”. Born April 2005, by “Pirate” and out of a home bred dam “Lisdadnan Tess” by “Doonally New” she was purchased by Stewart Murphy, Tamnanore, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.
Price range for heifers was from €1300 to €7,700 with an average price of €2788 and an 80% clearance.
