CHAROLAIS AVERAGE €4,000 AT PREMIER EVENT

At a packed Charolais show/sale in Tullamore on Saturday last quality bulls met a solid trade from Irish farmers who kept many of the top Charolais bulls in this country. The sale attracted buyers from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Despite a slow start the trade was solid and there was over an 85% clearance of bulls and 75% of heifers
Price range for bulls was from €1900 to €6,000
80% sold for €3,000 and over.
Price range for heifers was from €3,000 to €5,000
Average of €3,778.

Top price of the day €6,000 was achieved
on three separate occasions.

First for the champion bull KNOCKANE BRANDON bred by Jim & Ivan Ryall, Knockane, Castlemartyr, Co. Cork. By “Pirate” and out of a home bred dam by “Brampton Embark” he was purchased by John McCormack, Cappaville, Clonard, Co. Clare. Under the new €URO-STAR rating system he had the top rating of five stars within and across all breeds and a Suckler Beef Value of €159.

Next €6000 went to David Geoghegan, Curragh, Rosemount, Moate, Co. Westmeath for his bull MOUNTROSE BLAZE. By the famous “Doonally New” and out of a dam by “Indurain” he was purchased by Rosemary Murphy, Ballybinaby, Hackballscross, Dundalk. He was also a five star bull within and across all breeds and he had a Suckler Beef Value of €180.

The third €6000 went to James Geoghegan, Lisnagree, Streamstown, Mullingar for LISNAGRE BLAZE by “Hermes” and out of a cow by “Excellent” A five star bull within and across all breeds, he had a Suckler Beef Value of €161.

Reserve Male Championship went to John McGlynn, Edeercloon, Dromod, Co. Leitrim for his bull "Eddercloon Brutus". By Oscar and out of a home bred dam by "Doonally New" he sold for €5,500 to David Erskine, Crosses, Co. Monaghan.

FEMALES
In the small heifer section top price of the day €5,000 was achieved twice.
Edward Walsh, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan received €5,000 for CARRICKMACROSS ARLENE by “Dromiskin Stallone” and out of a home bred dam by “Glencrdon Laroche” She was purchased by Seamus Delaney, Creemully, Castlecoote, Co. Roscommon.
John Grady, Creggane, Glenamaddy, Co. Galway also received €5,000 for his heifer GLENREE ANDREA by “Oscar” and out of a cow by “Altis Martell” She was purchased by Brendan Canning, Creggconnell, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo.
Champion heifer ROSSY ABBA bred by Edward Abbott, Mostrim, Co. Longford, sold for €4,600 to Joseph Fortune, Knottown, Wexford. By “Doonally New” she is out of home bred dam by “Indurain”
Reserve Champion Bunratty Victoria bred by Dan Melody, Bunratty, Co. Clare sold for €3,600 to John Erskine, Darton Hall, Killylea, Co. Armagh. By “Farmleigh Regent” she is out of a home bred dam by “Habit”
