CHAROLAIS YEAR OFF TO A FLYING START
WITH A TOP PRICE OF €7,200 -
Average for Charolais bulls at the first show/sale of 2006 was €2883
UP €568 on the same sale last year.

Following the outstanding sale in Carrick in December this sale had an 80% clearance of bulls and a top price of €7,200 for the first prize winner and reserve male champion BLAKESTOWN VISION bred by Patsy McCabe, Blakestown, Ardee, Co. Louth. Born October 2004 and by his stock bull “Seigneur” (whose pedigree goes back to “Ludwig”/”Invincible”/”Ecrin”) and out of an imported dam by “Ideal” he was purchased by Tom Vickers, Knockmiller, Arklow, Co. Wicklow.

Champion bull of the day was RIVERSDALE VIERA, bred by Teresa & Kevin Maguire, Eskeroom, Dunderry, Navan, Co. Meath. By “Doonally New” and out of a home bred dam by “Enfield Newlook” he sold for €6,100 to Pauric Loughran, Tullynacrunat, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan.

Champion female went to Jarlath Treacy, Claretuam, Tuam, Co. Galway for his maiden heifer “CLAREGAL VENA”. By his homebred stock bull “Claregal Steve” and out of a dam by “Hara Kiri” she sold for €1800 to Kathleen O’Connor, Laragh, Streamstown, Co. Westmeath. A second heifer from the same herd “Claregal Vanessa” by the stock bull “Claregal Steve” and out of a dam by “Royal Handsome” was also purchased by Mrs. O’Connor for €1800.
