GREAT TRADE FOR CHAROLAIS BULLS CONTINUES AT ENNIS

A top price of €4,050 was achieved twice at the Charolais show and sale in Ennis on Saturday last. Average price for bulls was €2,463 with a price range from €1,100 and only two bulls unsold.
Top price of €4,050 was paid for the champion male “Limkiln Billy” bred by Richard Hackett, Coolistigue, Clonlara, Co. Clare. By “Doonally New” and out of a home bred dam by “Jupiter” he was purchased by Michael McNamara, Megga West, Carron, Co. Clare.
Second top price of €4,050 was paid for “Clenagh Bruce” bred by Michael J. Quin, Clenagh, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare. By “Pirate” and out of a home bred dam by “Roundhill Rocky” he was purchased by Patrick Hegarty, The Island, Kilfenora, Co. Clare.
Local breeder Christy Morey, Sixmilebridge, received €3,650 for his 15 months old bull “Ballysheen Billy”. By “Doonally New” and out of a dam by “Bunratty Royce” he was purchased by John Costello, Darragh, Ennis who also purchased “Roundhill Bsinndar” for €2,800 from Timothy Corridan, Fedamore, Co. Limerick. By “Maerdy Sinndar” he is out of a home bred dam by “Meillard”.
Championship in the small female section went to Michael Sheahan, Luddenmore Grange, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick for his maiden heifer “Luddenmore Athena” by Roundhill Rocky, out of Farmleigh Olga by Farmleigh Goliath. She sold for €3,200 to James Ryan, Glengar, Doon, Co. Tipperary. Price range for females was from €2,000 to €3,200 with an average of €2,538 and only two unsold.
Final Charolais Sale for 2007 takes place this Saturday in Carrick-on-Shannon. On offer are 162 bulls and 103 heifers. Show for bulls starts at 10.00 a.m. with the sale at 12/30 p.m. Female judging commences at 1.00 p.m. followed by the sale at 3.00 p.m.
