TOP PRICES UP FOR BOTH MALES AND FEMALES AT PREMIER

The flying trade for Charolais bulls evident at all sales this Spring was underpinned at the Society’s premier show/sale on Saturday (April 5th) in Tullamore with an outstanding average price for bulls of €3933. Bidding for bulls peaked at €6,300 (up €300 on last year’s Spring premier) with a price range from €1850 and a 75% clearance.
Bidding in the smaller heifer section was very brisk achieving a top price of €6,000 (up €1,000 on last year’s Spring premier) with a price range from €2,000 and a 70% clearance.
The show/sale attracted a huge attendance with buyers present from Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

MALES
Top price of €6,300 went to William Cahill, Lislin, Mullagh, Kells, Co. Meath for LISLIN CHIEF a son of “Doonally New” out of “Dolland Polo” by “Excellent” Purchaser was Gary Brennan, Cordevlash, Braddos, Monaghan.
€6,100 went to Maria Calvey, Knappabeg, Westport, Co. Mayo for “Caltun Cruz” a son of “Farmleigh Ulick”. Purchaser was William Adams, Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone.
€6,000 went to Martin Ryan, Cabra, Thurles for his third prize winner “Goldstar Commandeur” a son of “Meillard”. Purchaser was John Burke, Murrough, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare.
€6,000 went to Patsy McCabe, Blakestown, Ardee for his first prize winner “Blakestown Commander” a son of “Blakestown Artiste”. Purchaser was Edward Mullaney, Cootehall, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
€6,000 went to Patrick Farrelly, Dromiskin, Dundalk for “Dromiskin Ceaser” a son of “Doonally New”. Purchaser was John Joe Doyle, Cullenagh, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.
€6,000 went to Joe Gilfillan, Kilmore, Carrick-on-Shannon for his second prize winner “Kilmore Churchill” a son of “Enfield Plexus”. Purchaser was Dermot Foley, Tawlagh, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon
€5,900 went to Ultan Lynch, Beagh, Killinkere, Virginia, for his first prize winner “Mandela Colm” a son of “Domino”. Purchaser was John Murphy, Rineen, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare.
€5,900 went to Tom Butler, Ballymore, Cashel for his first prize winner “Clonoulty Benson” a son of “Nevers”. Purchaser was J. J. McHenry, Ballymoney, Co. Antrim.
€5,500 went to Shane Tully, Dromore West, Co. Sligo for his second prize winner “MacMelvin Bantry” a son of “Major”. Purchaser was Laurence Fallon, Dysart, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
€5,100 went to Seamus Daly, Rosemount, Moate for his second prize winner “Rosemount Chief” a son of “Doonally New”. Purchaser was Ray Dempsey, Ballinough, Roscrea.
€5,100 went to Edward Walsh, Aghafad, Carrickmacross, for “Aghafad Colibri” a son of “Dromiskin Phoenix”. Purchaser was James Carson, Downpatrick, Co. Down.
€5,000 went to Shane Tully, Dromore West, Co. Sligo for a son of “Major”. Purchaser was Joseph Sweeney, Dunfanaghy, Letterkenny.
FEMALES
Top price €6,000 in the small heifer section went to John O’Grady, Creggane, Glenamaddy, Co. Galway for his reserve female champion GLENREE BEAUTY by “Prime Roberto” out of an imported cow “Glenree Orlane” by “Impeccable” She was purchased by Frank Warburton, Boggagh, Moate, Co. Westmeath.
€5,000 went to Richard Hackett, Coolistigue, Clonlara, Co. Clare for the champion female “Limkiln Bernie” by “Domino” and out of a home bred cow by “Bowerhouses Topper” She was purchased by Peter O’Toole, Leagaun, Moycullen, Co. Galway.
€5,000 went to Denis Carey, Ballyhesta, Carrignavar, Co. Cork for “Glencardon Bountiful”, by “Domino” out of “Knockane Ivy” by “Escott Dollar”. She was purchased by Frank Warburton, Boggagh, Moate, Co. Westmeath.
