A FLYING START TO 2009

At the first Society pedigree sale of 2009 the average price for bulls was €3,200, UP €600 on the first sale of 2008.
Top price of €6,000 was paid for Richard O’Beirne’s Champion Male, “Doon Domino”. A CF52 son out of a dam by “Excellent” he was purchased by Michael Rafferty, Ballinvoher, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.
Reserve Male Champion “Williamstown Dorcas”, was bred by Aidan Farrell, Boyanna, Moate, Co. Westmeath. He sold for €5,100 to Padraig Hegarty, Farnagh Hill, Longford. Another son of CF52 he is out of “Ballydavis Pippy” by “Doonally Ducdenever”.
The trade for Charolais bulls was solid throughout resulting in the best ever average for the first sale of the year and a clearance in excess of 75%.
Top prices
€5,700 received by John Bambrick, Castlewarren, Co. Kilkenny for a son of Dromiskin Phoenix out of a dam by “Cottage Scott”. He was purchased by PJ Carolan, Carnaross, Kells, Co. Meath.
€5,400 received by William Cahill, Lislin, Mullagh, Kells for his 1st prize winning son of CF52, out of a dam by “Excellent”. He was purchased by Mark Cosgrove, Clonloo, Boyle, Co. Sligo.
€5,400 received by Glenn Cooper, Coolrain, Portlaoise for his first prize winning son of Enfield Plexus (“Domino”) out of a dam by PTI Prince. He was purchased by William Smyth, Athboy, Co. Meath
€5,100 received by Pat O’Hara, Ballyheigue, Co. Kerry, for “Dreena Cavalier” by Pompon and out of a cow by “Hermes”. He was purchased by Paul Ross, Legan, Co. Longford.
€4,750 received by Joan Sugrue, Bennetsbridge, Co. Kilkenny for a son of “Nevers”, out of their show winning cow “Kilbline Nationale” (by Fakir)
€4,200 received by Michael Mullins, Kilrush, Co. Clare for a son of CF52, out of “Kilmore Reeno” (by Gin Tonic).
€4,200 received by Glen Cooper, Coolrain, Portlaoise for a son of “Enfield Plexus” out of a home bred dam “Nore Argentina” (by PTI Prince)
€4,000 received by Dermot Crinion, Slane, Co. Meath for a son of “Padirac” out of a home bred dam “Elstonwood Sharon” (by Falstaff)
Price range was from €1,500 to €6,000

In the small heifer section top price of €2,750 went to Thomas Breen, Holycross, Thurles for “Ballylanders Betty”. By “Enfield Plexus” she is out of a home bred dam by “Pirate”. She was purchased by Thomas Cleary, Gaybrook, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
Price range was from €1,350 to €2,750 with an average of €2,100
