Premier Show and Sale - Tullamore 1st April 2006
3/04/2006 |
| PREMIER HIT €20,000 – UP €4,000 ON 2004 SALE |
Breeder,Tony Grady, Claristown, Julianstown, Co. Meath took the male championship honours for the second year in a row at the premier show and sale and did it with a full brother to last year’s champion.
His 2004 champion sold for €11,000 but this year he got top price of the sale and hit the magical €20,000 mark.
Champion was ASHLEIGH ADMIRAL, born 2nd February, 2005.
By “Doonally New” he is out of a home bred dam “Ashleigh Pear” by “Jupiter.
His BLUP figures were 137 for Muscle and 122 for Skeletal and he was purchased by County Cavan breeder, Thomas McQuade, Drumagoland, Virginia who had to overcome stiff opposition in the bidding stakes from a Northern Ireland customer.
Judge, Archie McGregor from Scotland stated that “he is as good a Charolais bull as he has ever seen, in any country”
One of our very younger breeders (11 years old at the show and sale with his Dad) was overheard saying how lucky they were that their bull was not in the same show class as “Ashleigh Admiral”, and indeed that sentiment was echoed by a lot of exhibitors long before the judging started.
Reserve Male Championship went to Pauline & Bobby O’Connell,
Ballybrown, Clarina, Co. Limerick for their bull BALLYBROWN ALFI. A second prize winner from the same class as the champion, he was born on 14th February 2005, is by Prince and out of “Ballybrown Sagesse” by “Erudit”. He had BLUP figures of 124 for Muscle and 118 for Skeletal. He sold for €6,300 to Seamus McGreevy, Mill Farm, Gormanstown, Co.Meath.

Jim Ryall, his son Ivan and grand-son Evan all from Castlemartyr, Co. Cork. Their in-calf heifer KNOCKANE ULTRA, born November 2003, is by “Doonally New” and out of an imported dam “Coachford Jalousie” by “Gentleman”. She is in calf to “Bova Sylvain” She sold for top price - €8,000, in the female section to Damien Kelly, Ballintubber, Rosemount, Moate, Co. Westmeath.
